Orange County Great Park Planning
Irvine, California
Participated on a collaborative team with landscape architect Ken Smith, artist Mary Miss, architect Enrique Norten, landscape architect Mia Lehrer, and urban ecologist Steven Handel, winning an International Design competition for the $1.1 billion Orange County Great Park, a 1,300-acre urban park on the decommissioned El Toro Marine Air Station in Irvine, California. A large portion of our work was to analyze and study worldwide urban parks and botanical gardens in an effort to understand how visitors utilize park and recreational space. This information then became the basis for formulating design concepts and strategies for the various park components.
